Whether our souls need respite from the hectic or the mundane of our week, all are invited to table to rest, reflect, and share. We will have time to listen to ourselves, to God, and to our sisters in the group. With centering prayer, simple crafting, and journal prompts, we will have opportunities to connect with God and each other.

It’s time to experience prayer in its purest form – a vital, sustaining, powerful connection with God that is more real and alive than we can ever imagine. We will address roadblocks to prayer and find the confidence to come to God just as we are. We will meditate on the core practices of prayer that are woven together with deep scriptural wisdom, and will share new habits and practices that will create space in our lives for God’s presence. Be ready to open or reopen the line of communication with our Creator and embrace the wonder and mystery of prayer in everyday life. 

Love as He intended: choosing strength over fear. 

​What is the opposite of love?  Many would say hate, but studying the Bible reveals that it is actually fear.  Fear leads us to make harmful decisions and live unproductive, unhappy, and unfruitful lives.  Love is the key to a fruitful life, but love must be more than a feeling.  Love must be an action-a choice.  Choosing love over fear is the most powerful choice we can make.

"BEMA" (or bimah) is a Hebrew word that refers to the elevated platform in the center of 1st century synagogues where they read the Torah. In the early church, the community of God's people didn't face a stage with an audience, but rather centered around the Word of God. 

​

In our group, we will listen to the conversations in the BEMA podcast and learn a new approach (eastern vs. western) to the Scriptures. Through this class, we will hear about how the Israelites would have understood the Torah and what experiences and teachings would be in the forefront of their minds as Scriptures unfolded.  This eastern approach gives us permission to pause, observe, and find "problems" in the Bible. This podcast and our discussions will not just be engaging the mind, but will also tug at your heartstrings as we experience God in new ways.  We will be continuing in the Old Testament and finish the review of Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible) in particular the time of the Israelites wandering in the desert.

This is a continuation class from previous semesters.  If you'll be joining us for the first time or have never listened to the BEMA podcast before, it is recommended to listen to the first 5 episodes of Season 1 to understand the style of discussion we will participate in.
