Comforter, counselor and friend is how the Holy Spirit is described in this book by Anne.  Tami & I will be using this book as a reference for our class on the Holy Spirit.

As children of God, we have the Holy Spirit in us to counsel, to comfort and to guide us.  In Jesus in Me, Anne draws on her own story and her rich biblical knowledge to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling.  He is a person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times.

No homework is required just come to the class and learn about our precious friend, the Holy Spirit.  

"BEMA" (or bimah) is a Hebrew word that refers to the elevated platform in the center of 1st century synagogues where they read the Torah. In the early church, the community of God's people didn't face a stage with an audience, but rather centered around the Word of God.

In our group, we will listen to the conversations in the BEMA podcast and learn a new approach (Eastern vs. Western) to the Scriptures. Through this class, we will hear about how the Israelites would have understood the Torah and what experiences and teachings would be in the forefront of their minds as Scriptures unfolded.  This Eastern approach gives us permission to pause, observe, and find "problems" in the Bible. This podcast and our discussions will not just be engaging the mind, but will also tug at your heartstrings as we experience God in new ways.  We will be staying in the New Testament this semester, studying the book of Matthew with a focus on understanding the parables.

This is a continuation class from previous semesters.  If you'll be joining us for the first time or have never listened to the BEMA podcast before, it is recommended to listen to the first 5 episodes of Season 1 to understand the style of discussion we will participate in.  Additionally, Season 3 - episode 109 is an introduction on understanding parables that will be helpful prior to the start of the class.
